Role Summary: The Assistant Manager of Patient Care plays a pivotal role in supporting the Patient Care Manager by overseeing the implementation and assessment of the patient care delivery framework and nursing practice standards. This position is essential in ensuring the quality of patient care and involves leadership responsibilities, including daily management and evaluation of nursing personnel. The role is accountable for achieving quality outcomes, financial performance, employee engagement, and enhancing the patient experience in alignment with the strategic objectives of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, organization, and evaluation of nursing standards within the unit.
- Supervise staff and ensure optimal patient care through effective resource management.
- Provide mentorship and foster a collaborative work environment to enhance service quality and employee engagement.
- Contribute to the recruitment, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations of nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with training requirements for all team members within specified timelines.
- Support the Patient Care Manager in achieving departmental objectives.
- Assist in the fiscal management of the department to optimize financial resource utilization.
- Facilitate communication across departments for effective operational management.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and policies, focusing on quality and safety initiatives.
- Promote an environment of service excellence and serve as a role model for staff interactions.
- Engage in personal and professional development to maintain current knowledge in nursing practices.
- Encourage staff participation in shared governance and act as a mentor in this model.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an advanced nursing degree required (or completion within two years).
Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience, including one year in a leadership role or demonstrated leadership capabilities. Nursing certification in leadership or a related specialty is preferred.
Licensure: Active RN license in New York and Connecticut, with additional certifications as required based on unit specialties.
Physical Requirements: The role may involve light physical effort, including standing, changing positions, and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment: The position may involve exposure to minor occupational hazards, necessitating appropriate precautions.
