Patient Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team at MidHudson Regional Hospital. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Provide basic patient care tasks, including hygiene, toileting, and feeding, while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Assist registered nurses in providing individualized patient care plans and communicate effectively to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Report changes in patient condition and other relevant information to RNs in a timely manner, anticipating potential adverse outcomes and communicating accordingly.
- Interact with other team members to establish priorities and ensure timely completion of tasks, taking the initiative to assist others when needed.
- Answer call lights promptly and communicate patient/family needs to appropriate staff members, anticipating patient/family needs and responding appropriately.
- Assist with transporting patients, lifting, moving, and ambulating patients, and accompanying patients on discharge as requested.
- Collect specimens, label accurately, and deliver to lab as requested, performing EKGs or Phlebotomy as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, including white boards in patient rooms, and report unsafe conditions to Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager.
- Follow procedures for securing repairs and making requests of other departments, recognizing broken or failing equipment and reporting to Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager.
- Restock utility rooms, kitchen, file cabinets, nurse's station, and other common areas as directed.
- Transfer patients' personal effects, including valuables, as needed.
- Seek out opportunities for learning and accept direction and guidance from nursing staff.
- Participate in a minimum of 10 hours of in-service education yearly and seek assistance in new or unfamiliar situations.
- Assist in orienting patient care technicians, including float personnel, to the environment and serve as a preceptor for newly hired patient care technicians.
- Adapt to changing staff and/or unit needs, recognizing acuity/activity of the area and taking initiative to assist.
- Recognize potential for conflict and seek appropriate assistance to intervene, demonstrating ability to de-escalate potential conflict.
- Record accurately and appropriately patient activity and all treatments, including I&O, V/S, and Accuchek.
- Minimum of one-year recent experience in a similar setting or behavioral health setting, or a nursing student having completed one clinical rotation.
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS required.
- Ability to communicate and interact appropriately with individuals at all levels, including patients, family members, and staff.
