With a network of over 85,000 small businesses and 1,500 organizations, we connect entrepreneurs with essential resources and advocate for policies that promote equitable growth, particularly for the smallest businesses in under-resourced communities.
Position Overview: We are currently seeking a full-time Outreach Coordinator for Southern California to spearhead our initiatives in the region. This role involves developing and executing strategies for outreach and education aimed at small business owners, advocacy groups, and policymakers regarding critical issues affecting small enterprises.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture robust relationships with small business owners, advocacy organizations, media representatives, and policymakers throughout Southern California, focusing on under-resourced entrepreneurs.
- Conduct outreach and educational initiatives for small employers and business organizations, providing resources on topics such as access to capital, healthcare, and paid family leave. This includes organizing and executing in-person presentations, webinars, and other engagement activities.
- Formulate strategies to meet specific grant-funded objectives effectively.
- Mobilize small business owners to engage in state and federal policy discussions through various means, including writing to policymakers and participating in legislative hearings.
- Disseminate important policy updates and communications to regional partners to enhance visibility within the small business ecosystem.
- Expand the network of small business owners throughout Southern California creatively.
- Represent the organization at panels, press conferences, and events, and potentially testify at legislative hearings.
- Assist in fundraising efforts by identifying new funding opportunities and maintaining relationships with current supporters, ensuring accurate records of outreach efforts.
- Engage with small business owners on a limited basis to understand their needs and direct them to appropriate resources.
- Maintain accurate and timely data entry into the organization’s database.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Stay informed on significant small business news and developments.
- Monitor news coverage related to key policy issues and partner organizations.
- Provide support to team members in other regions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- A minimum of three years of experience in outreach or public engagement within the business community.
- Familiarity with small business challenges and California's political and legislative landscape.
- Self-motivated with the ability to network effectively.
- Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work remotely with team members nationwide.
- Strong accountability and a drive to exceed expectations.
- Willingness to travel regionally and overnight, approximately 25% of the time.
- Availability for occasional travel throughout California and attendance at organizational retreats.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in advocacy, public policy, or political organizing.
- Successful fundraising experience from corporate or philanthropic sources.
- Familiarity with Salesforce CRM.
- Proficiency in additional languages such as Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, or Vietnamese.
Location: Candidates must reside in the Los Angeles County area with access to the Southern California region.
