Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director, Major Gifts to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of qualified potential donors and securing significant gifts to support the mission of Princeton University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fundraising Responsibilities
    • Develop and implement effective fundraising strategies to secure gifts of $250,000 or more from qualified potential donors.
    • Complete a minimum of face-to-face visits annually with donors to engage, cultivate, and solicit gifts in support of Princeton.
    • Solicit 20-40 gifts annually of $250,000 or more.
    • Secure a minimum of $2.5M in new commitments annually in a combination of capital and annual gifts.
    • Represent Princeton's mission and fundraising priorities to various constituencies and stakeholders.
    • Engage senior administrators, faculty, trustees, and volunteers in the process of cultivating and soliciting potential donors.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Write timely contact reports for the prospect database following each face-to-face visit with a donor or potential donor.
    • Prepare well-written visit briefings, strategy documents, solicitation proposals, and stewardship reports.
    • Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the University and the fundraising priorities across the institution.
    • Manage select volunteers or volunteer initiatives, ensuring they are properly staffed, deployed, and satisfied with the level of support from Princeton.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least five years of professional higher education development-related experience or related work experience.
  • A proven track record of successful major gift fundraising or equivalent.
  • Strong familiarity with Princeton University and its mission.
  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and foster relationships with people at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to motivate staff and evaluate performance.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Discretion, good judgment, and commitment to keep confidential all data related to Princeton and its alumni and donors.
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
