Salary: The estimated annual salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $220,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing innovative solutions that can impact the future of integrated photonics. As an Experimental Photonics Scientist, you will be part of a team passionate about leveraging commercial photonics foundries, novel materials integration, additive manufacturing, advanced design concepts, and environmentally rugged packaging to realize solutions that can transition into the field.

Responsibilities:
  • Optimize the design of custom PIC components using computational approaches
  • Lay out PICs for quick-turn manufacturing at various MPW foundries using software tools
  • Develop and maintain APL's internal component/sub-system library for fabless PIC manufacturing
  • Work with materials scientists and additive manufacturing engineers to augment PICs with novel materials
  • Conduct benchtop validation testing of PICs
  • Validate micro-photonic systems for qualified flight/space-flight operation
  • Develop independent research and development concepts and present/publish results effectively

Qualifications:
To meet our minimum requirements, candidates must hold a Master's degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering, have 1+ year experience building integrated, fiber-optical, and free-space photonics systems, and possess working experience with scientific programming tools like MATLAB and Python to analyze the propagation of light in photonics systems.
