Job Summary

The Office of Special Counsel is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Associate Special Counsel to lead the General Law Division. As a key member of the senior executive team, you will be responsible for providing executive direction to the division, overseeing a broad portfolio of prohibited personnel practice matters, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide executive direction to the General Law Division, ensuring the success of major programs and projects.
  • Oversee a broad portfolio of prohibited personnel practice matters, including investigations, litigation, and advisory opinions.
  • Review and assess the organizational effectiveness of program services and policies, and design and implement procedures to improve/optimize organizational performance.
  • Communicate complex legal and technical issues through oral and written communications, interacting with senior officials, external partners, and internal organizational entities.
  • Supervise the work of employees, exercising important policy making, policy determining, or executive functions.
  • Participate in establishing and accomplishing organizational objectives, policies, programs, and personnel decisions.
Requirements
  • Professional law degree (L.L.B., J.D., L.L.M.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Active membership in good standing in a bar of a state, U.S. Territory, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth or Puerto Rico.
  • Five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs): Leading Change, Leading People, Results Driven, Business Acumen, and Building Coalitions.
  • Two Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs): Demonstrated ability to manage a legal services program and effectively communicate complex legal and technical issues.
