Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant Job Summary
As a Physician Assistant in the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps, you will provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services to patients. This includes assessing patients referred to the Medical Surgical Service by reviewing medical records, interpreting radiographs, and performing the appropriate musculoskeletal evaluation. You will recognize routine and emergent conditions inherent to the specialty of orthopedic surgery and order routine laboratory tests and imaging studies as needed. In addition, you will assist orthopedic surgeons in the Operating Room with minor surgical procedures and evaluate soldiers for retention.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services to patients.
- Assess patients referred to the Medical Surgical Service by reviewing medical records and performing the appropriate musculoskeletal evaluation.
- Recognize routine and emergent conditions inherent to the specialty of orthopedic surgery.
- Order routine laboratory tests and imaging studies, including X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans.
- Prescribe medication approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
- Assist orthopedic surgeons in the Operating Room with minor surgical procedures.
- Evaluate soldiers for retention.
Working Conditions:
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
- Immunization screening is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a physician assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant.
- Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants examination.
- Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant.
- A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
