Position Overview

The role of the Surgical Suite Operations Leader involves overseeing the daily functions of the surgical suites to ensure efficient support for surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership: Direct and manage shift operations, including staff scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Preparation of Surgical Environment: Ensure the surgical operating suite is equipped with both sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
  • Assistance During Procedures: Support surgeons during operations by providing necessary instruments and supplies, and assist with hemostasis as required.
  • Patient Care: Aid in the preparation, transportation, positioning, and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
  • Instrument Management: Maintain an organized system for instruments and monitor instrument counts throughout surgical procedures.
  • Staff Development: Conduct orientation, training, and coaching for staff, and contribute to performance evaluations.
Qualifications

Licensure and Certification:

  • Must obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or transfer. Acceptable certifications include those from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • One of the following credentials is required:
    • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or a current multi-state license.
    • Certified First Surgical Assistant, with certain exceptions for associates hired before a specified date.
    • Surgical Technologist credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Preferred: Central Service Technician specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.

Education:

  • High School diploma with 2 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's/Technical degree with 1 year of experience, or 5 years of applicable job-specific experience.
