Madison-Davis, LLC, a reputable family-owned enterprise established in 1926, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant. The firm operates across three primary sectors: Equipment Leasing, Real Estate, and Hospitality. Employees benefit from a pension plan, with 20% of their annual compensation contributed by the company, vesting over a six-year period without any employee contributions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review sales, use, and property tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable state laws while minimizing tax liabilities.
- Evaluate tax returns submitted by team members, analyzing the reasonableness of filings and addressing any discrepancies.
- Examine lease agreements and research state tax regulations to determine the correct tax treatment for leased assets, ensuring all necessary exemption certificates are maintained.
- Collaborate with the remarketing team to assess tax implications of proposed sales, including the collection of relevant exemption certificates.
- Engage with collection staff and clients to resolve tax-related collection issues, determining appropriate tax charges based on customer claims.
- Oversee billing processes to ensure accurate tax collection from lessees.
- Reconcile tax liabilities, chargebacks, and payments with the general ledger, recommending necessary adjustments.
- Stay informed on legislative changes and court rulings that may affect tax filing positions or requirements.
- Act as the liaison for sales/use and property tax audits, conducting self-audits and responding to inquiries to mitigate potential tax assessments.
- Maintain tax processing software to ensure efficient operations.
- Facilitate the completion and submission of tax returns by obtaining necessary signatures and payments.
- Assist in the preparation of state income tax returns across all 50 states and related schedules for various filing types.
- Support the filing of city and local jurisdiction income tax returns and licenses.
- Contribute to state and local income tax audits and respond to notices as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 4-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Proficiency in OPT property tax software and Vertex sales/use and leasing tax software is essential.
- Familiarity with OneSource Tax Software is advantageous.
