At Becker Health, we are seeking a highly skilled Medical Abstractionist to join our team. As a Medical Abstractionist, you will play a critical role in reviewing and interpreting physician services documentation in patient records to accurately report physician activity for professional services billing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coding and Abstracting: Code diagnoses, level of service, and procedures using CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding systems with 95% accuracy, 100% of the time.
  • Chart Review: Systematically review and analyze patient records to determine the principal diagnosis and level of service, all significant additional diagnoses and procedures, and produce a coded abstract for physician billing.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Apply Departmental standards for the documentation and reporting of physician services in determining the correct level of service supported by the documentation of physician services in the patient record.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Serve as a resource to Department physicians regarding guidelines for patient care documentation, respond to physician inquiries on proper documentation of patient care, and maintain a thorough knowledge of current diagnosis and procedural coding practices.
Requirements:
  • Education and Certification: Maintain certification as a procedural coder and have a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using PC software, with knowledge of EPIC preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
