POSITION SUMMARY:

The Licensed Communication Specialist will deliver high-quality rehabilitation services in Speech Therapy to residents, following the prescribed care plans for addressing speech, swallowing, and auditory impairments, in compliance with all applicable laws and facility guidelines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Certification:

Must be a graduate of an accredited speech therapy program (minimum of MS-Speech Language Pathology).

Skills & Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively in English, relay resident conditions to others, and make independent decisions as necessary; knowledge of relevant state rules and regulations regarding speech therapy; must exhibit patience, friendliness, and respect towards residents, even in challenging situations; capability to implement speech therapy programs, goals, and objectives; physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting and moving residents as required.

Experience:

Current SLP license in good standing for the state of practice; ASHA certification (CCCs); at least one year of experience in a healthcare setting; experience in long-term care preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work primarily in the rehabilitation department and resident rooms; frequent physical activity including bending, lifting, and moving; may encounter interruptions and emotionally charged situations; scheduled shifts may include weekends and holidays based on resident needs; primary focus is resident care while also interacting with visitors and regulatory personnel; participation in continuing education is required; exposure to various health and safety risks is inherent to the role.

Customer Service: Treats all individuals with dignity and respect; represents the facility positively; demonstrates a willingness to assist residents and visitors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluates residents' functional levels for speech and swallowing capabilities.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments and makes therapy recommendations.
  • Implements speech therapy treatments according to care plans.
  • Establishes measurable and realistic goals based on individual care plans.
  • Participates in discharge planning for residents.
  • Documents treatment progress accurately and timely.
  • Conducts and interprets evaluations for hearing and speech.
  • Maintains positive relationships with residents and their families.
  • Supervises SLP-CFYs and rehabilitation aides to ensure quality care.
  • Completes necessary documentation in compliance with regulations.
  • Handles scheduling, calls, supply orders, and insurance forms.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Participates in meetings and educational seminars.
  • Provides in-service training related to rehabilitation services.
  • Assists in transporting residents as needed.
  • Educates families and staff on speech therapy techniques.
