Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

Efficient Work Practices:

  • Respond to maintenance requests and adhere to the preventive maintenance schedule in a systematic manner.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively, balancing routine duties with urgent needs.

Effective Problem Solving:

  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and communication systems within the community.
  • Proactively identify and rectify potential problems before they escalate into complaints.

General Repairs and Upkeep:

  • Possess strong skills in general repairs and maintenance tasks, including changing light fixtures, patching walls, and securing loose handrails and locks.

Preventive and Equipment Maintenance:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in preventive maintenance and servicing of heavy equipment, including boilers and pressurized systems.

Room Readiness Checks:

  • Ensure that resident rooms and apartments are fully functional and ready for occupancy, addressing electrical, plumbing, and painting needs as required.

Facility Upkeep:

  • Conduct various maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping tasks as necessary, such as clearing roof drains and performing painting duties.
  • Assist with the transportation of materials as needed.

Emergency Response:

  • Be knowledgeable about emergency procedures for situations such as elevator malfunctions, flooding, power outages, and fires.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies to ensure resident safety.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current First Aid training and certifications as per relevant regulations.
  • Proficient in computer usage and typing skills necessary for managing computerized systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and work successfully in a diverse environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in facilities maintenance within long-term care or related fields is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role is advantageous.
