As a Surgical Technologist II at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in the surgical team by assisting in the preparation and organization of the operating room, passing instruments during surgical procedures, and maintaining aseptic conditions. You will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical experience for patients.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist Surgeons in the Operating Room: Assist physicians during surgery as a member of the surgical team, passing instruments and supplies as directed.
- Maintain Aseptic Conditions: Scrub and conform to sterile technique for each procedure, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
- Prepare Surgical Site: Assist in draping the patient, providing proper retraction of tissue, and applying surgical dressings as directed by the physician.
- Assist with Emergency Situations: Recognize, respond to, and assist in acute emergency situations following established procedures and policies.
- Support Surgical Team: Hold and position video cameras under the direction of the surgeon, check surgeons' preference cards, and prepare sterile setups.
- Count and Verify Instruments: Count with the circulating nurse before prepping the patient and confirm all specimens with the surgeon.
- Maintain a Clean and Organized Environment: Keep the Mayo stand and back table neat and orderly, dispose of contaminated instruments, and adhere to methods of sterilization, disinfecting, and antisepsis.
- Support Patient Care: Assist with patient care during and after surgery, including handling surgical specimens and body fluids, and adhering to principles for maintaining environmental safety.
- Additional Responsibilities: Restock surgical supplies, assist in creating inventory lists, assist with setting par levels, and assist with education and in-services.
- Experience: One (1) year of operating room or military equivalent experience in a scrub role within the last two (2) years or recent completion of an operating room training program.
- Certification: Surgical Technologist Certificate within six (6) months of hire from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
- Basic Life Support: Current Basic Life Support certification.
This is a variable position with variable start times, and ten (10) hour shifts are available. The ability to scrub all types of surgical cases except open heart is required. Kaiser Permanente is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce.
