Medical Assistant Job Description

Penn State Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the Penn State College of Medicine. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Place patients in exam rooms and take vital signs
  • Reconcile medications and complete intake questionnaires
  • Conduct Point-of-Care testing, administer vaccines, and perform EKGs
  • Practice phlebotomy and assist with in-house procedures as needed
  • Complete prior authorizations, form completion, and oversee the patient e-message pool
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of employment date or current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain BLS Certification within 6 months of employment date
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Previous outpatient experience preferred
