Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Substitute Nurse to join our team at the Anchorage School District. As a Substitute Nurse, you will provide nursing services to students in our schools, substituting for our regular school nurses. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students and work in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing services, including immunization status review, screenings, treatments, medications, and diabetes and seizure management.
  • Fill in for other duties as needed, such as hall duty, lunch coverage, recess, bus duty, etc.
  • Check in with the principal/designee and check out before leaving the assignment.
  • Report to the classroom within one hour from the time the assignment is accepted.
Requirements
  • An associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Alaska Registered Nurse license.
  • Substitutes wishing to work long-term assignments (lasting longer than 19 consecutive days) must have a valid Alaska type C certificate with an endorsement in nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A valid Alaska type C certificate with an endorsement in nursing.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Experience working as a nurse in a public education system.
  • Evidence of the flexibility necessary to work in a variety of educational settings.
Compensation

Substitute nurse jobs are either half or full day assignments. Substitute nurses are compensated at the rate of $250 per full day assignment and $125 for half day.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
