Position Overview

The Licensed Respiratory Therapist collaborates with healthcare providers, nursing staff, and support departments to ensure exceptional care for patients across all age groups, from newborns to seniors. This role encompasses both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, including diagnostic evaluations through cardiopulmonary testing.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and consults with healthcare providers to create and execute a tailored care plan for patients experiencing respiratory issues and cardiopulmonary conditions.
  • Administers prescribed therapies and assesses patient responses; documents and communicates results to the healthcare provider.
  • Conducts cardiopulmonary diagnostic assessments in an outpatient environment.
  • Inspects, tests, and operates respiratory therapy apparatus.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations and calls for immediate assistance.
  • Maintains ongoing education requirements as mandated by the relevant licensing authority.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates critical thinking abilities, sound judgment, and the capacity to work independently.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations and take appropriate actions.
  • Skilled in managing workload to accommodate departmental needs and time constraints.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software applications.

Educational Background:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • Successful completion of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) CRT and/or RRT examinations or eligibility to take these exams, with successful completion required within 18 months of employment.

Physical Demands:

  • Extended periods of sitting at a workstation and utilizing a computer.
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 15 pounds occasionally.

Certifications Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
  • Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association is recommended.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association is recommended.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics is recommended.
