We are seeking a skilled Telecommunicator to join our team at New Hanover County. As a Telecommunicator, you will be responsible for answering emergency calls and monitoring radio dispatch in our 911 Public Safety Communications Center.
Key Responsibilities
* Answer emergency calls and dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment
* Monitor radio transmissions and prioritize calls based on nature and urgency
* Maintain accurate logs and records of calls and responses
* Operate a manual dispatching system when automatic systems are not functioning
* Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience
* Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and county streets, highways, and waterways
* Ability to obtain CPR, DCI operator, and emergency medical, fire, and police dispatch certifications
* Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
Working Conditions
* Work is performed indoors in a closed and secured setting
* Must be able to function for extended hours day or night and possess necessary skills to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, recording device, and various office skills
