Job Summary

New Hanover County is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Community Health team at the Health and Human Services department. As a Public Health Nurse, you will provide essential nursing procedures, including interviewing patients, administering medications and vaccines, and documenting patient records. You will also assume a disaster shelter role and function as part of the Community Health Team within the TB Program, providing relief and back-up for the community team and community nursing clinics as needed. Additionally, you will perform community nursing outreach and education activities for at-risk populations, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Provide public health skilled nursing procedures, including interviewing patients and responding to questions for TB Suspects and Cases
  • Deliver, dispense, administer appropriate medications and vaccines; perform screening tests; counsel clients on test results and public health issues
  • Interact with the family and resources involved with the patient's care; document and maintain patient records in ELR
  • Assume a disaster shelter role and function as part of the Community Health Team within the TB Program
  • Perform community nursing outreach and education activities for at-risk populations
Requirements
  • Valid RN license with eligibility to practice in NC
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing that includes a public health rotation or Associate's Degree in Nursing which includes a public health nursing rotation or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience
  • Prior experience working in a department of public health; experience working in TB or communicable diseases
