Job Announcement

This position oversees and supervises the information department of a regional library, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional customer service.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manages and supervises the branch in the absence of the branch manager.
  • Serves on the branch management team, contributing to strategic decision-making.
  • Responds to complex customer issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Performs essential information and support duties, ensuring the library's collection and services meet community needs.
  • Coordinates information services and training for regional staff, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.
Key Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school.
  • Two years of professional library experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Possession of a certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for Certification of Librarians within three months of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least three years of library experience, including two or more years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience working at a public service desk and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Experience leading meetings and/or creating/conducting presentations about the library.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and shoulder movements.
  • Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time.
  • Ability to shelve materials at all height levels.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, squat, and kneel.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County.
