About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Nuclear Engineer to join our Datacenter Engineering team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and delivering safe and efficient nuclear power generation solutions for our data centers.

As a Principal Nuclear Engineer, you will work closely with our cross-functional teams to develop and implement nuclear power generation strategies that meet our business needs. You will be responsible for evaluating and delivering carbon-free power generation solutions, influencing licensing and siting strategies for nuclear plants, and collaborating with senior leaders and stakeholders in the energy and utilities industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Influence key external partners to design operationally efficient and safe modular nuclear plants and associated balance of plant.
  • Build internal and external nuclear product and fuel strategy roadmaps, influencing clean energy strategy for AWS data centers.
  • Evaluate and deliver carbon-free power generation solutions by working with internal and external global partners.
  • Drive due-diligence on specific power projects and recommendations to senior leadership on specific power solutions that meet AWS's needs.
  • Build relationships with senior leaders and other stakeholders in energy, power, and utilities companies, regulatory bodies, and DoE.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical)
  • 10+ years of experience in nuclear power generation
  • 5+ years in a senior or principal role with a history of technically guiding engineering teams and defining nuclear roadmaps
  • Understanding of the NRC, US ANSI, UL, NERC, FERC, NESC, and European EN & IEC standards
  • 5+ years' experience influencing licensing, siting, and operations strategy of nuclear plants
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in Nuclear Engineering
  • Senior Reactor Operator license or Shift Technical Advisor experience
  • 15+ years of relevant design experience deploying utility-scale power plants across the United States
  • Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of generation plants, nuclear plants, energy storage assets, and substations
  • Experience with fast-track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects
  • Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and maintain high-quality standards
  • Capable of working in a highly fast-paced, ambiguous environment, managing conflicting priorities and deliverables
