SUMMARY:
The Respiratory Care Specialist II is accountable for delivering safe, suitable, and prompt respiratory evaluations and treatments for all patients at John George Psychiatric Pavilion, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient services.
Performs associated responsibilities as needed.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
NOTE:
The following responsibilities are typically undertaken by employees in this role. However, employees may engage in other related tasks at a comparable level. Not every duty listed is necessarily performed by each individual in this classification.
Administer, oversee, and evaluate patient reactions to various ambient, positive pressure, and oxygen-enriched therapies.
Evaluate the respiratory condition of both inpatients and outpatients.
Examine the validity of all respiratory care directives; suggesting modifications or suitable interventions as necessary to medical and nursing personnel.
Assess/initiate/monitor continuous ventilation across newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.Collaborate with other healthcare professionals at the Pavilion to enhance patient care. Uphold privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Exhibit proficiency in utilizing resources available in the work environment. Capable of performing a Flow Volume Loop and assisting Pulmonologists with Bronchoscopy Equipment.
Adhere to all Pavilion and departmental policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions, HIPAA, and Safety regulations.
Assume responsibility for understanding and complying with guidelines in the Environmental Health and Safety Binder, as well as the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Interpret arterial blood gas results and recommend suitable interventions. Execute duties independently, employing professional judgment and decision-making consistent with established practices. Document therapy thoroughly, including responses to modalities. Prioritize responsibilities continuously, especially during emergencies.Respond to all emergency codes to assess and maintain airway. Initiate and sustain one-person CPR for a duration of 5 minutes.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with possession of any necessary licenses or certifications, is qualifying.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School diploma required. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Education:
Successful completion of an AMA accredited Respiratory Care program.
Preferred Licenses/Certification:
Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (NRP), issued by AHA.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS), issued by American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS), issued by AHA preferred.
