Job Overview

The Staff Accountant position at HeadQuarters Kansas is a full-time, exempt role that requires strong accounting principles and practices. The successful candidate will maintain accurate financial records, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies.

About the Role

This position will be responsible for managing and monitoring grant funds, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and supporting the effective use of grant resources. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Executive Team, external auditors, and external program managers to assist in the preparation of financial statements, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and proper documentation for processing.
  • Grant Management: Manage and track all grant activities, ensuring that all funds are allocated, expended, and reported in accordance with grant agreements and regulations.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes to ensure accurate and timely financial statements, perform account analysis, and prepare financial reports for management and the Board of Directors.
  • Budgeting: Assist in preparing departmental and organizational budgets, provide analysis of budgeted versus actual expenses, highlighting areas of concern and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Audit Support: Assist internal and external audits related to grants and other funding sources.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Two years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting, ability to reconcile discrepancies in financial records; utilize established resources to complete work efficiently, effectively, and independently.
