Job Description:

We are seeking a talented Psychiatric Nursing Assistant III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide complex rehabilitative patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide emergency, health, and personal care services to patients, observing, reporting, and documenting their conditions and behaviors in an electronic record.
2. Interact with patients therapeutically, promoting living and social skills to encourage progress towards a lesser restrictive environment.
3. Participate in individualized and unit-based programming, collaborating with the recovery team or admissions team to achieve patient goals.
4. Use therapeutic communication skills to engage patients, assist them in meeting the objectives of their individual recovery plans, and maintain a quiet and restful environment to promote individual's rest and sleep.
5. Assist patients with activities of daily living, hygiene, and eating to promote independence and self-care, while monitoring patients as assigned to ensure their health and safety.
6. Serve as a liaison to the recovery team or admissions team, providing on-going verbal and written communication concerning patient's progress or lack thereof, to individualized goals.
7. Use basic computer skills, documentation skills, and reporting procedures to communicate patient care information clearly and concisely in a timely manner.
8. Assist the licensed nurse in preparing patients for medication administration or treatment, taking and monitoring vital signs, and performing other assigned tasks within competency level.
9. Actively promote safety through the continuous monitoring of the environment and active engagement of patients, to minimize unsafe situations and injuries.
10. Provide objective and relevant information to the supervising RN on an ongoing basis concerning the work performance of Psychiatric Nursing Assistant staff.
11. Participate in shift reports and recovery team or admissions meetings, while responding effectively in crisis or psychiatric emergency situations.
12. Perform CPR/Heimlich techniques and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) correctly and safely according to the specifications of the American Heart Association.

Requirements:
1. Knowledge of patient care techniques and of treatment, therapy, developmental, and patient-centered recovery programs.
2. Knowledge of basic computer skills and effective interpersonal and leadership skills to interact with other team members.
3. Ability to take vital signs, read, write, and understand English to effectively communicate and carry out verbal and written instructions.
4. Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and conduct TIPS.
5. Ability to work with others and accept supervision, while training and providing guidance to others.
