Recreation Program Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced AccessABLE Recreation Program Specialist to lead recreational activities enriching the social development and experience of individuals with disabilities.
Job Summary:The AccessABLE Recreation Program Specialist will lead recreational activities, engage with participants, and maintain records and reports. This is a limited-term position that supports the daily programming for individuals ages 1-80 with intellectual and physical abilities.
Responsibilities:- Facilitate AccessABLE Recreation Programs and deliver engaging and safe recreation programs.
- Interact with program participants to promote a safe and enjoyable recreation program.
- Promote positive social skills, independence, and physical activity for participants.
- Engage with participants to exercise, play games, and complete projects.
- Work within a team to provide support to each other and to participants.
- Adhere to safety practices involving staff and participants.
- Follow prescribed record keeping procedures, including incidents.
- Maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other staff, participants' families, and community members via professional and courteous communication, information sharing, providing feedback, and problem solving as needed.
- High School Diploma and 6 months of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Recreation, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field.
- Experience with recreation programming.
- Experience working in a similar role or with people from diverse communities.
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation. The work is best described as Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical demands that may be required continuously (2/3 or more of the time), frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time) are noted below:
- Continuous demands: sitting, standing, walking, fine dexterity, handling
- Frequent demands: lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching
- Occasional demands: kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting
Sensory requirements necessary in the performance of the essential functions of this position include: sight, hearing, and touch.
Environmental conditions that may exist in the performance of the essential functions of this job include:
- Extreme heat (above 100 degrees)
- Work outdoors (no effective protection from weather)
