Perfusionist - Clinical Specialist

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Staff Perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary/circulatory function. This includes the set-up, delivery, management, maintenance, and operation of other relevant ancillary services, devices, and equipment.

This position requires providing service for adults, older adults, and the frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

There is call (after hours, weekends) required. Holiday call is also required.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare field is preferred. New graduates, as well as experienced perfusionists, will be considered for employment.
  • Staff Perfusionists are required to be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and renewed on a biannual basis.
  • Staff Perfusionists are required to be Certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Or Certification Eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ACP). This certification must be renewed annually.
  • Must be graduates of an accredited Perfusion School unless began perfusion career prior to April 15, 1981. If perfusion career started before April 15, 1981, must have 2 years of college (60 credits) with an emphasis in science.
