Job Title: Deputy Sheriff

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Deputy Sheriff. This is a full-time sworn deputy position assigned to the Jail Division.

Job Summary:

The Deputy Sheriff is responsible for performing a variety of duties, including booking and processing inmates, supervising inmates, maintaining accurate records, and serving as court security as needed. This position requires a strong understanding of law enforcement procedures and protocols, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assign prisoners to specific cells and conduct regular security checks
• Conduct random searches and operate the jail control center
• Receive and release prisoners, conduct in-custody searches, and check and secure personal property
• Supervise Huber inmates and trustees, control and distribute medications, and arrange visiting times for inmates
• Accompany inmates to court, testify as needed, and operate breathalyzer and SCBA equipment

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 60 college credits within five years of hire date
• U.S. Citizen, minimum age 18
• Valid driver's license with good driving record
• Ability to possess a firearm, no felony convictions, and good verbal and written skills

• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and follow through on an appropriate course of action
• Demonstrated initiative, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, exercise professionalism, good judgment, integrity, discretion, dependability, and enthusiasm

Working Environment:

The work environment is indoors in the Ozaukee County Jail. This position requires wearing a uniform.

Qualified candidates will be invited to test using the National Corrections Officer Selection Test. Study materials may be found at the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. Successful candidates may be invited to interview for the immediate openings and the hiring list in person or later via Zoom.
