Job Summary

This is a sworn deputy position assigned to the Court Services Unit. Candidates must currently be certifiable law enforcement officers. Retired law enforcement officers are encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in the screening of all persons and property entering the court level of the Ozaukee County Justice Center and operate equipment necessary to maintain facility security.
  • Provide security in the courtrooms as required and be responsible for the general good order and security of Justice Center employees and the public.
  • Monitor the interior and exterior of the Justice Center building for potential threats to security.
  • Assess the general condition and security of the main floor of the Justice Center (court level) and adjacent areas during each shift.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all statutes and ordinances as they apply to the Justice Center, court visitors, and assigned employees.
  • Serve civil process and other court orders and be responsible for proper maintenance and service of arrest warrants.
  • Coordinate the movement of inmates between the jail and the courts. Schedule, coordinate, and perform prisoner transports.
  • Handle public relations and interact with all visitors to the courts as necessary or directed.
  • Coordinate court bailiff duties in cooperation with the jail staff and the courts when needed.
  • Perform any other duties and assignments as directed by the Sheriff or a superior officer.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 60 college credits in addition to a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • U.S. Citizen; minimum age - 18.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to possess a firearm.
  • No felony convictions; no domestic abuse convictions.
  • Clear and concise speech.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions of the position.
  • Ability to obtain and retain certification as a law enforcement officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board.
Working Environment

The work environment is typically indoors within the Ozaukee County Justice Center. This is a uniformed position.

Qualified applicants will be required to participate in an oral interview process, background investigation, and physical evaluation with drug screening.
