Job Summary:

As an Optometrist with Kaiser Permanente, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and patient-centered environment. Under the general direction and supervision of an exempt optometrist or exempt designee, you will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry, and the policies of The Permanente Medical Group, Inc.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Conducts and documents patient history, including chief complaint, relevant symptoms, and pertinent ocular health, family, and medical history.
  • Performs minimum and additional testing as needed, based on the specific needs of each patient, and adequately documents findings.
  • Accurately interprets data from clinical exams, makes sound clinical diagnoses, and takes appropriate actions to ensure patient ocular health and visual needs are met.
  • Uses tests and procedures to detect and manage disorders common to the elderly, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
  • Maintains all licensing and job requirements, including CE, CPR, safety training, and PPD.
  • Dictates/writes referral and information letters to other providers or agencies, as appropriate.

Basic Qualifications:
  • OD degree from an accredited School of Optometry.
Additional Requirements:
  • Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (T.P.A.) required for external employees hired after November 2009.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Optometry.
