About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader to manage the Solid Waste and Recycling division. As a key member of the Washington County Health and Human Services team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the division, which includes managing and enforcing private-sector service providers for collection, storage, transfer, and disposal of solid waste in a franchised system.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public sector solid waste and recycling management, with experience in leading and managing teams, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and analyzing and solving complex problems. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including staff, community members, and elected officials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Solid Waste and Recycling division
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient waste management practices
  • Lead and manage a team of staff, providing guidance, support, and training as needed
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including staff, community members, and elected officials
  • Analyze and solve complex problems related to waste management and recycling
Requirements
  • Masters degree in environmental science, public administration, or a related field
  • Four years of experience in solid waste management, recycling, or a related field, with at least two years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
