Position Overview

As a Fire Support Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will play a crucial role in the field artillery domain. Key Responsibilities

In the capacity of a Forward Observer, you will serve as the primary source of target identification for artillery units. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting target acquisition and transmitting vital information to artillery teams.
  • Utilizing advanced communication systems and equipment.
  • Operating laser range finders and performing calculations for target locations.
  • Assisting in the preparation and dissemination of fire support plans.
  • Training and supervising junior Soldiers as you advance in your role.

Compensation and Training

Instead of incurring costs for training, you will receive compensation while you learn. In the Army National Guard, you will earn a steady income while gaining these critical skills.

Following 10 weeks of Basic Training to develop fundamental soldiering skills, you will undergo six weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This training will encompass both practical and theoretical components, equipping you with the knowledge to accurately compute target locations, manage ammunition, and understand artillery tactics.
