Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a PRN Child Life Specialist who will be responsible for delivering tailored interventions for patients through both group and individual developmental play sessions. This role is crucial in promoting optimal psychosocial development while adhering to strict infection control protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strategies to alleviate patient stress and anxiety, fostering positive coping mechanisms during their hospital stay.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to establish patient care objectives, participate in care conferences, and facilitate interdisciplinary treatment.
  • Evaluate and support patients in alignment with their treatment plans, utilizing techniques such as distraction, therapeutic holds, and relaxation methods.
  • Organize and conduct developmentally appropriate play sessions that include medical play, educational activities, and special events.
  • Encourage family-centered care by providing support and education to siblings and caregivers.
  • Maintain a nurturing environment that prioritizes the well-being of patients, while directing and providing clinical services and activities tailored to individual needs.
  • Document patient interactions and progress, ensuring clear communication with other departments and families as necessary.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Assist in the procurement and maintenance of therapeutic equipment and supplies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Patient Experience Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or Child Life is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist or eligibility to obtain certification within one year of hire is required.
  • Experience in a pediatric healthcare setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The role may involve physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, reaching, and lifting light loads (up to 35 lbs).
