Lead Nursing Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision and in accordance with applicable nursing regulations, this role involves planning, organizing, and overseeing nursing personnel. The position is responsible for managing resources and providing support for direct patient care across various inpatient and outpatient units, while also performing related duties as necessary.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This position reports directly to a senior management member within the healthcare facility. Weekend rotations are part of the job requirements.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Must possess an Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
Experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, ideally in an acute care environment, demonstrating critical thinking and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Licensure/Certification
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in the State of California.
BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
Additional certifications such as Chemo Certification, PALS, NRP, and FHM may be unit-specific.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Nursing processes and their application in patient care.
- Teaching, coaching, and mentoring methodologies.
- Regulatory requirements for licensure and accreditation.
- Personnel scheduling, team dynamics, conflict resolution, and management techniques.
- Hospital policies, quality assurance protocols, safety regulations, and infection control procedures.
- Relevant federal, state, and local laws governing nursing practices.
Abilities to:
- Learn and enforce compliance with policies and procedures, while developing unit-specific standards of care.
- Maintain an objective and consistent demeanor.
- Participate in performance evaluations and identify behavioral trends.
- Accurately complete and maintain clinical documentation.
- Monitor key performance indicators in practice.
- Identify areas for improvement and lead the implementation of corrective actions.
- Set and communicate performance expectations effectively.
- Skillfully teach, coach, and mentor nursing staff.
- Manage time efficiently and make informed decisions using problem-solving skills.
- Foster teamwork through effective group dynamics.
- Build and sustain positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay updated on advancements in nursing specialties.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms.
- Handle emergency situations with sound judgment to prevent adverse patient outcomes.
AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCY
Demonstrates and maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to address the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients across all age groups served within the assigned unit.
