Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Associate to join our team at Portobello America Inc. as a Tile Operator. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation of machinery and equipment used in the production of tiles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Operation: Operate specialized machinery used in various stages of tile production, including mixing raw materials, forming tiles into shape, applying glazes or coatings, and firing kilns.
  • Setup and Calibration: Set up machines according to production specifications, adjusting settings, loading materials into hoppers or feeders, and calibrating equipment for optimal performance.
  • Monitoring Production Processes: Monitor machinery and equipment to ensure they are functioning correctly, checking gauges, sensors, and computerized controls to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Quality Control: Inspect tiles at different stages of production to ensure they meet quality standards, visually inspecting for defects, measuring dimensions, and conducting tests as required.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and address issues that arise during production, such as equipment malfunctions or quality problems, troubleshooting machinery, making adjustments, and possibly performing minor repairs.
  • Material Handling: Handle and feed raw materials into machines, as well as move finished tiles from production lines to drying racks or storage areas, requiring careful attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning of machinery and work areas to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination, and perform basic maintenance tasks to ensure equipment operates smoothly.
  • Adherence to Safety Procedures: Follow safety protocols at all times to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues, wearing appropriate PPE, operating machinery safely, and participating in safety training.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate production records, including quantities produced, material usage, and any issues encountered during production, to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other operators, supervisors, and quality control personnel to coordinate tasks, share information, and contribute to overall production goals.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, twist, and lift up to 35lbs repeatedly and 50lbs occasionally in an 8, 10, or 12 hour interval.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to pay close attention to details, such as quality standards, product specifications, and safety protocols, to ensure consistent output and avoid errors.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with basic machinery operation, tools, or equipment may be required, with training often provided on the job.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, follow instructions from supervisors, and communicate clearly with co-workers.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues that arise during production, troubleshoot problems, and make quick decisions to keep the production line running smoothly.
  • Reliability and Punctuality: Reliable transportation is a must.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn new tasks, adapt to changing production demands, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in the manufacturing process.
