Purpose

The role involves delivering educational assistance for undergraduate courses within the Department of History. Responsibilities include supporting primary instructors with evaluation, classroom facilitation, student engagement, online course resources, and communication. Additionally, this position includes mentoring and overseeing graduate student Teaching Assistants and contributing to curriculum development efforts. This position is part of a pilot program subject to evaluation and potential extension.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with instructors during scheduled lectures.
  • Evaluate assignments, essays, and examinations under the guidance of course instructors.
  • Maintain timely communication and provide educational support to assigned students.
  • Hold regular office hours to address student inquiries and requests.
  • Assist instructors in managing grades and course materials on the learning management system.
  • Provide additional instructional support as required.
  • Mentor and guide graduate student Teaching Assistants in the Department of History.
  • Support the recruitment, assignment, and onboarding of Teaching Assistants, as well as assist undergraduate instructors in course development and setup.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or equivalent at the university level.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Capability to manage deadlines across multiple courses.
  • Collaborative team player with Teaching Assistants.
  • Professional demeanor, punctuality, and reliable attendance.

Relevant education and experience may be considered as substitutes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in History.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Teaching Assistant at the university level.
  • Familiarity with online teaching tools and platforms.
  • Experience with academic resources at the University of Texas at Austin.
Salary Range

$54,000

Working Conditions
  • Standard classroom environment.
  • Frequent use of a keyboard.
  • Manual dexterity required.
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 20 lbs.
  • May involve processing a high volume of documents with strict deadlines.
Work Shift
  • Typically Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.
  • Occasional work outside standard hours may be necessary.
