We are in search of a Vessel Construction Project Leader who will be accountable for managing the planning, execution, and successful completion of new vessel construction initiatives. This position demands a seasoned project leader with a robust background in maritime engineering, shipbuilding, and project oversight.
The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of transforming intricate, first-of-class ship design projects into reality while guiding the process through shipyard contract execution.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and oversee all facets of new vessel construction projects, from initial design and planning to delivery and commissioning.
- Create comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
- Collaborate with shipyards, naval architects, and engineering teams to supervise the design, construction, and outfitting of new vessels.
- Track project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement corrective measures to maintain project timelines.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations, classification society standards, and company policies throughout the construction process.
- Conduct regular site inspections at shipyards and other project locations to monitor construction activities and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors, negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
- Prepare and present regular project status updates to senior management, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and achievements.
- Oversee the commissioning and sea trials of new vessels, ensuring that all systems and equipment meet specified requirements.
- Facilitate the transition of new vessels to the operations team, providing necessary documentation, training, and support.
- Stay informed about industry trends, technologies, and best practices in shipbuilding and project management.
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
- 8+ years of combined experience in maritime project management, design, engineering, and/or new vessel construction.
- Proven experience in developing green energy solutions is highly preferred, particularly with LNG, ammonia, or similar technologies.
- Ability to interpret and understand contracts.
- Financial expertise to develop budgets, formulate long-term plans, and contribute to financial models.
- Experience collaborating with ABS and USCG to effectively navigate complex regulatory challenges.
