Job Overview

United Companies, a CRH Company, is seeking a skilled Lead Excavator Operator to join our team. As a key member of our construction crew, you will be responsible for overseeing the installation of various sizes and types of drain pipe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise daily activities of 2 to 5 people, ensuring efficient and safe work practices.
  • Study project specifications with the Pipe Superintendent to plan procedures for pipe installation sequencing.
  • Operate assigned heavy equipment to excavate, install, and backfill large pipe and culvert.
  • Inspect work sites to determine sequencing and method of pipe installation, identifying potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Plan drain pipe installation to minimize interference with other project activities and traveling public.
  • Monitor equipment to detect malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repairs.
  • Assist managers in developing and maintaining job descriptions for all positions.
  • Inspect work to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adheres to construction schedules.
  • Use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, eye levels, and transit levels to set appropriate grade for pipe installation.
  • Establish a safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards and company safety programs.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company environmental policies.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a lead excavator operator on civil pipeline jobs.
  • Experience in the building materials/construction industry preferred.
