Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans in consultation with parents and department team members.
  • Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Coordinate individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff.
  • Monitor student progress and participate in review and revision of students' IEPs.
  • Maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities.
  • Support students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills.
  • Assess students' skills and educational needs and track their performance.
  • Discuss students' progress with their other teachers.
  • Communicate effectively with students and their parents.
  • Follow School District policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
  • Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred.
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
