Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified part-time instructor to teach introductory art courses on our Eureka campus and at the Klamath/Trinity Instructional site in Hoopa. The successful candidate will possess college-level technical skills in drawing, painting, and color theory, as well as a Master's Degree in Art.

Responsibilities
  1. Teach introductory art courses, demonstrating effective performance of duties and responsibilities.
  2. Show currency and depth of knowledge in the discipline and/or area of assignment.
  3. Evaluate and discuss student work with patience, fairness, and promptness.
  4. Show sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of individual students and their special circumstances.
  5. Use effective written and oral communication skills with students and colleagues.
  6. Demonstrate effective organizational skills in the classroom and/or work site.
  7. Exercise effective judgment in following college policy.
  8. Use teaching methods and materials challenging to the student and appropriate to the subject matter.
  9. Ensure currency and appropriateness of curriculum, course outlines, and written materials.
  10. Adhere to state and federal regulations applicable to the area of assignment.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Participate in peer mentoring and evaluation processes.
  2. Meet contractual obligations, including advising and maintaining regular office hours.
  3. Demonstrate responsibility in fulfilling division/department obligations and other district requirements.
  4. Participate in professional growth activities, such as workshops, seminars, conferences, and publications.
  5. Provide leadership and demonstrate commitment to the profession through activities such as involvement in professional organizations and participation in collegial governance.
  6. Work with colleagues to provide an educational program and environment that supports the success of each student.
  7. Participate in program review and accreditation processes.

  1. Promote and defend intellectual inquiry and the exchange and analysis of ideas among colleagues and students.
  2. Demonstrate respect for the college community and the profession.
  3. Promote a nonthreatening campus environment free from verbal and nonverbal discrimination and sexual harassment.
  4. Support gender equity and cultural diversity, and display sensitivity to these issues.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's in fine arts, art, or art history, or a Bachelor's in any of the above and a Master's in humanities, or the equivalent.
