Controller Job Description

Two Harbors Investment Corp. is seeking a skilled Controller to lead its accounting function and provide strategic oversight. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership attributes, with the ability to influence senior leadership and collaborate across multiple functional areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting, including periodic SEC filings and supplementary reporting for audit committee, counterparties, management, etc.
  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures and support technical accounting research necessary to maintain GAAP and SEC compliance, including application of new accounting standards
  • Manage monthly financial close process, including general ledger maintenance and reporting, consolidations and trend/variance analysis
  • Serve as direct liaison with external auditors
  • Assist investor relations with external communications
  • Team with internal and outsourced IT functions to expand back-office technology and further automate critical accounting systems and reporting
  • Partner with FP&A to build forecasting models using automated reports and data from systems
  • Work with internal legal counsel on financing agreements, intercompany transactions, and 1940 Act testing
  • Engage with industry peers, Accounting system software vendors, and relevant industry groups
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Public accounting experience required, preferably Big 4
  • 10+ years in the financial services industry, preferably with a focus on the U.S. mortgage market (investment in mortgage-related products, mortgage loan origination, servicing and financing) and in a public company environment
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • Strong process management skills with experience in designing and managing projects and developing and enhancing systems, operational structure and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and manage at all levels of the organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead and motivate peers to achieve results
  • Track record of demonstrating good decision making and strategic discipline
