Position Overview

Michael Baker International is in search of a Civil Engineer to enhance our Federal Aviation division, focusing on the execution of airfield engineering initiatives that support and upgrade essential airfield facilities for the US Military, both domestically and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Acting as the federal aviation operations authority for Michael Baker, collaborating with the Pittsburgh-based aviation department manager and federal program leaders to secure airfield and pavement planning and design projects with AFCEC, USACE, NAVFAC, and USCG clients.
  2. Engaging directly with Department of Defense clients to review airfield specifications in conjunction with Michael Baker's US Air Force and Space Force National Market Lead.
  3. Facilitating internal coordination within the national aviation team and external collaboration with joint venture partners to strategically develop team qualifications and technical proposals in response to government requests.
  4. Leading a group of airfield design experts and engineering professionals in the planning and design of airfield pavements and associated infrastructure, which includes conducting design workshops, creating courses of action and design alternatives, preparing comprehensive IFC plans and technical specifications, and overseeing material reviews and RFIs during construction.
  5. Serving as a subject matter expert in the assessment and design of federal airfields and pavements, which involves industry engagement, presentations, and technical documentation in collaboration with relevant conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  6. Providing education to Michael Baker airfield designers and fostering the development of subject matter experts throughout the organization.
Professional Qualifications:
  • Exceptional communication skills, effective decision-making capabilities, strategic leadership, and strong organizational and technical writing abilities.
  • A minimum of 15 years of project management and civil engineering experience, specifically in leading teams on Department of Defense airfield pavement projects, including field inspections, site assessments, analysis, planning, design, and construction administration services.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer or a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Extensive experience applying DoD, UFC, and UFGS criteria to airfield projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and travel to Michael Baker offices as needed for team collaboration and coordination meetings.
  • Possession of a US Passport and the capability to travel internationally to execute projects as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong familiarity with DoD requirements, DoD Airfield Engineering (USACE, AFCEC, NAVFAC), airfield horizontal geometric layout, PCASE pavement design, and the application of UFC requirements and USGS specifications, along with project procurement and technical SOW preparation.
  • Preference for candidates located in Michael Baker's Pittsburgh office, although remote assignments may be considered for the right individual.
