Your Opportunity and Impact
The Bridge Design Engineer will serve as a technical leader, responsible for coordinating overall design activities, project submission schedules, and ensuring the final products meet technical requirements and client goals. This role requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license and commensurate work experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review design computations, plan designs, and drawings.
- Review submittals and coordinate project submissions.
- Prepare and review specifications, draft letters, and written technical reports.
- Complete inspections and field work assignments as needed.
- Research, review, interpret, and understand written regulations, code compliance, and permit requirements and apply them to design projects.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of work and project records.
- Possess knowledge of Codes and Standards applicable to project designs.
- Develop technically accurate, clean, and deliverable drawings.
- Promote, utilize, and support quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce design errors and omissions.
- Perform work within assigned budgets.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant Engineering field from an ABET-accredited school, or related field of study.
- Minimum of (5) years job-related experience. PennDOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge design experience is preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) required.
- Must have thorough knowledge of the design and development process of transportation bridge projects and knowledge of AASHTO and PennDOT Design Manuals, Standards, Specifications, Engineering Software, and Microstation.
- Understanding of and ability to prepare bridge design, bridge construction plans, and specifications, including special provisions, and other related project documents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microstation, Open Roads, InRoads (Surfaces and Templates), and other related software programs.
- Must have a strong desire to expand knowledge base and undertake new responsibilities.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Possess strong oral & written communication skills, and have strong organizational & time management skills.
- Must be able to work both independently and as part of a project team.
