Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Adoption Center Counselor to join our team at the City of Albuquerque, NM. As a key member of our animal welfare team, you will provide exceptional support to potential adopters, facilitate animal adoptions, and ensure the well-being of animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to potential adopters, answering questions and facilitating visits between customers and animals.
  • Process adoptions, receive payments, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Care for and clean animals housed at the Adoption Center, maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Answer questions regarding City ordinances and regulations, providing accurate information to the public.
  • Perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility, including administrative duties and animal handling.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; at least one year of animal welfare work experience in an animal services facility preferred.
  • Retail sales experience a plus.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit within six months from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City of Albuquerque Cash Handling Certificate within six months from date of hire.
  • Ability to work weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Must pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Principles and practices of retail business settings.
  • Principles and practices of animal welfare, handling, care, and treatment.
  • Customer relations techniques.
  • Principles and procedures of cash handling, financial record-keeping, and posting.
  • A variety of animal species, breeds, and related behavioral and health characteristics.
  • Computer literate in a Windows environment.
  • Occupational hazards and standard animal safety practices.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local codes, laws, and regulations.
