Job Summary

UNC Health Pardee is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trauma Medical Director to lead the development and implementation of our new level 3 trauma program. The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background in trauma care, exceptional leadership skills, and a vision for providing high-quality emergency medical services to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive level 3 trauma program, ensuring alignment with local, state, and national standards.
  • Collaborate with hospital administration to strategize and execute plans for the trauma service line, including budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in trauma care.
  • Ensure compliance of the trauma program with all regulatory and accreditation bodies, including the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
  • Provide direct patient care in the trauma center and participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Lead performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives related to trauma care.
  • Foster relationships with other hospitals and healthcare organizations for patient transfer and referrals.
  • Develop and facilitate educational programs and training for the trauma team and hospital staff.
Requirements
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board-certified in General Surgery with an additional Fellowship in Trauma Surgery or Surgical Critical Care.
  • Current, unrestricted medical licensure.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in trauma care, with at least two (2) years in a leadership role.
  • Proven knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards for a level 3 trauma program.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • A patient-centered approach to care, with a commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community.
