Clinical Optometrist

Position Overview:
The individual in this role is responsible for delivering comprehensive eye care services to a diverse patient population, addressing various age groups and visual impairments.
Location:
This role is situated within the Indian Health Service framework.
Reporting Structure:
The position reports directly to the Supervisory Optometrist.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver primary, preventive, and therapeutic optometric care directly to patients.
2. Assess and diagnose ocular and optometric conditions affecting the eyes and adjacent tissues.
3. Provide education and counseling regarding vision and eye health to patients.
4. Maintain accurate records of all patient evaluations, treatments, and care plans.
5. Develop and implement community health screening initiatives.
Training and Mentorship:
Act as a preceptor for optometry interns and residents from accredited optometry programs.
Employment Conditions:
1. Candidates may be subject to a probationary period.
2. U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
3. Selective Service registration is mandatory for male applicants born after a specified date.
4. Ability to distinguish colors is essential.
Background Requirements:
1. Successful completion of a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation is required.
2. Continued employment is contingent upon the results of the background investigation.
Qualifications:
1. A Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution is required.
2. A valid, unrestricted license to practice optometry is necessary.
Experience:
1. At least one year of specialized experience in a relevant field is required.
2. Experience in hospital-based optometry, including the management of various ocular conditions, is preferred.
