About the Position:

The George Mason University Housing & Residence Life department is seeking a skilled Housekeeper to join our team. As a Housekeeper, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our residential facilities, ensuring a comfortable and healthy living environment for our students.

Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain common areas, hallways, and stairwells in residential facilities, including laundry rooms, balconies, and sidewalks.
  • Clean student rooms, including furniture, windows, ledges, doors, and closets, during building transitions or student check-out.
  • Perform daily pick-up of exterior community grounds and dispose of trash from residential buildings to designated collection locations.
  • Load and unload furniture and other materials, and transport them to designated locations using various equipment as needed.
  • Make minor repairs to student room furniture and install window treatments as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff, and report any safety concerns or suspicious items to supervisors.
Requirements:
  • Related work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • General knowledge of cleaning terms and safety procedures related to hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to read and follow cleaning instructions and schedules.
  • Ability to practice effective oral communication skills with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to read, understand, and abide by all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, without close supervision.
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior University residential, hotel, or multi-residential community housekeeping experience.
  • Experience in use of mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish).
