Position Overview:
The Lecturer in Literacy Education is a vital contributor to the Graduate Program in Literacy Education, focusing on PreK-12 instruction. Collaborating closely with the Program Director, this role encompasses the development and instruction of graduate-level courses aimed at enhancing literacy competencies among PreK-12 students. A strong dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within literacy education is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and deliver graduate courses in the Literacy Education program, utilizing both online and occasional in-person formats.
  • Stay informed about contemporary PreK-12 literacy curricula and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Implement assessment strategies and diverse instructional techniques tailored to meet the needs of all learners, leveraging various educational technologies.
  • Guide and mentor graduate candidates during their clinical practice experiences.
  • Act as an instructional leader, engaging with faculty teams to enhance course offerings and promote innovative teaching practices.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with educational institutions and mentors in the PreK-12 sector to enrich the teacher preparation program.
  • Provide academic guidance to program candidates and outreach to prospective students.
  • Maintain an active record of scholarly contributions and professional service.
  • Participate in Graduate School committees, attending both virtual and in-person meetings as necessary.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the program to meet national and professional accreditation standards.
  • Engage in grant writing to support program initiatives.
  • Embody the mission and values of Touro University and the Graduate School of Education in all professional contexts.
  • Attend faculty retreats throughout the academic year.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include both online and in-person responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Education or a related discipline, or ABD with an expected completion date within one year.
  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in PreK-12 settings, particularly with diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessment practices and effective instructional strategies that yield positive outcomes for varied student populations.
  • Experience in preparing educators at the collegiate level, with proficiency in both traditional and online teaching environments.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies, including Canvas.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations.

  • Proven track record in grant writing.
  • Expertise in urban education and working with students with diverse needs.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Experience in course and program development.
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, adaptable across various platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online learning tools.

Travel Requirements:
Some travel may be required for program-related activities.

Salary:
Maximum Salary: USD $82,400.00/Yr.
Minimum Salary: USD $65,920.00/Yr.
