About The Team

As an Application Security Specialist, you will assess security measures surrounding web resources and mobile applications, along with their backend services for TikTok.

Collaborate with a team of security testing experts to enhance existing service offerings and security testing capabilities, while conducting hands-on technical assessments focused on identifying vulnerabilities as outlined by OWASP in both web and mobile applications.


To excel in this position, candidates should possess extensive knowledge in the security of operating systems, networking protocols, firewalls, databases, middleware applications, forensics, and programming.

All Application Security Specialists are encouraged to continuously refine their skills through research, expanding their expertise as part of the Offensive Security Team.


To foster collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, our organization currently follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be present in the office three days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly evaluate our hybrid work approach, and specific requirements may evolve over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and adapt custom tools to address emerging needs
  • Cultivate relationships with engineering teams to advance TikTok's security posture
  • Execute comprehensive exploitation operations in Windows and Unix environments
  • Create detailed and precise reports and presentations for both technical and executive audiences
  • Communicate findings and strategies to stakeholders, including technical teams, executive leadership, and legal advisors
  • Engage in innovative research and foster an environment of knowledge sharing
  • Conduct web application testing, mobile application testing, network penetration assessments, and source code evaluations
  • Utilize attacker tools, tactics, and methodologies to analyze and identify vulnerabilities
  • Implement static and dynamic security testing as part of an automated application security testing framework
  • Undertake additional cybersecurity operational and project-related responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent industry experience in IT, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Over 5 years of experience in application penetration testing
  • Comprehensive background in application, network, and system security
  • Proficient in using, managing, and troubleshooting various Linux distributions
  • Experience working within Windows environments
  • Skilled in reading, writing, and modifying code in multiple programming languages, including Perl, Python, Ruby, Bash, C/C++, C#, and Java
  • Familiarity with Burp Suite Pro, including the identification and application of relevant plugins
  • Experience with security assessment tools such as Nessus, Accunetix, Metasploit, or Cobalt Strike
  • Proficient in reverse engineering mobile applications, including those with anti-emulator and obfuscation protections
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for onsite testing, such as at data centers or office locations
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications like OSCP, OSCE, OSWE, GPEN, GCIH, GWAPT, or GXPN
  • Contributions to the security community through research, public CVEs, bug bounty recognitions, open-source projects, blogs, or publications
  • Experience in server administration, TCP/IP networking, vulnerability identification and exploitation, and mobile testing
  • Knowledge of methodologies for both static and dynamic analysis across various application types and platforms
  • Familiarity with Web Application Firewalls
  • Understanding of API vulnerabilities and strategies for mitigation
