Position Summary
The Stewardship team at The Trustees of Reservations is dedicated to the management and upkeep of a variety of properties in the Greater Boston area, encompassing historic homes, parks, and public gardens. This role is based at the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, where the team is involved in comprehensive property care to uphold the mission of the organization and ensure these unique locations are preserved for future generations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct landscape maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, litter collection, pruning, mulching, leaf removal, and other gardening activities.
- Collaborate with the Stewardship Manager to oversee routine maintenance of all facilities, which includes cleaning, painting, light carpentry, and plumbing tasks.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained in optimal condition through proper usage and preventive care.
- Foster positive relationships with neighbors, visitors, local officials, businesses, and staff from other departments.
- Assist with projects at other Trustees properties as needed and perform additional tasks as directed by the Stewardship Manager.
- Engage with visitors at properties in a friendly and professional manner.
- Recognize and support the efforts of volunteers and interns in the field.
- 1-3 years of experience in property management, landscape maintenance, or a related field.
- Strong leadership abilities that contribute to the growth and development of team members.
- Awareness and appreciation for aesthetic quality in landscape management.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively based on operational needs.
- Experience with hand and power tools.
- Capability to repair and maintain equipment.
- Attention to detail and a positive attitude.
- Willingness to adapt and commit to the goals of The Trustees.
- Desire to learn new skills to handle a variety of tasks.
- Commitment to safety and proactive participation in a safety culture.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Outdoor work during the fall and winter seasons, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Frequent interaction with visitors, volunteers, and staff in public spaces.
- Work in both managed and natural landscapes, as well as historic buildings.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in all weather conditions.
- Capability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work from ladders as necessary.
