CNC Machining Specialist

Position Overview:

The selected candidate will deliver a range of engineering assistance within a machining environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support tailored to a machine shop setting.
  • Develop and adjust CNC programs for various production machinery.
  • Conduct setups and validate programs on multiple CNC Mills, Wire EDM Machines, and lathes.
  • Interpret GD&T and analyze engineering schematics, CAD files, production plans, and technical documentation.
  • Create or assess machining process plans, ensuring labor hour accuracy and necessary adjustments to work plans.
  • Examine documents, sketches, and preliminary layouts to identify fabrication processes for prototypes and production assemblies.
  • Support the manufacturing floor by promptly addressing technical challenges.
  • Evaluate and formulate labor estimates for machining and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Maintain existing statistical process controls and implement new ones as needed.
  • Conduct manufacturing capability assessments and provide labor estimates.
  • Assist or mentor Machine Shop personnel in the setup and operation of multi-axis CNC equipment.
  • Perform related duties as necessary.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field is preferred but not essential.
  • At least 6 years of experience or a combination of training and experience in programming, setup, operation of CNC equipment, and troubleshooting complex multi-axis fabrication projects.
  • Prior experience in generating CNC programs using MasterCam and Pro-E (Creo) or equivalent CAD/CAM software.
  • Two years of experience working with quality systems and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of machining ferrous and non-ferrous materials, as well as plastics, fiber, and rubber materials.
  • Strong understanding of various cutting tools and the ability to determine and calculate appropriate speeds and feed rates.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP software is advantageous.
  • Experience in generating CNC programs with MasterCam and Pro-E (Creo).
  • Familiarity with data management systems.

Communication Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to convey technical issues effectively within and outside the job function (e.g., Engineering, Mission Assurance, customers, vendors) regarding policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage challenging discussions.
