JOB SUMMARY:


The Tutor plays a vital role in assisting elementary and middle school students in mastering essential academic skills within small group settings. This position involves providing support for class assignments, projects, test preparation, and skill enhancement tailored to individual student needs and educator recommendations.

The Tutor acts as a positive role model, coach, and mentor, demonstrating a sincere commitment to fostering the academic growth and educational success of students. It is essential for Tutors to uphold program expectations and apply the designated behavior management strategies when necessary.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver individualized and small group academic assistance to students.
  • Employ AVID methodologies to aid students in setting goals, developing work habits, and enhancing skills to boost their academic performance.
  • Cultivate an engaging and inclusive environment that promotes a sense of belonging among students.
  • Serve as a constructive adult role model by establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Implement the approved behavior management system effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 48 college semester units or 60 college quarter units, or a Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing Standard English suitable for a public educational setting.
  • At least six months of experience working with groups of 10 or more students in educational, afterschool, or recreational contexts.
  • Strong Math and English skills at the 6-8 grade level.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Support for English learners by being bi-literate, preferably in Spanish.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Successfully complete a Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
  • Provide evidence of a clear TB test.
  • Pass assessments in Advanced Math and English skills (K-8).
